Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central School), Indore was established in 1964 in the heart of the city and is spread in 9.74 acres. The School is managed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi and is meant for providing education to the wards of Central Government transferable employees including para military forces. The School is a Co-Ed, English medium day School and is affiliated to CBSE following NCERT curriculum. The school is very much popular in Indore. It runs in two shifts to accommodate around 2900 students.
Academics
The school follows the KVS norms. It offers education to students from class I to XII and offers science, commerce and humanities streams at 10 + 2 level. It runs in two shifts to accommodate the growing number of students with 4 (morning) + 2 (evening) sections in every class till VIII & 4+1 sections till class XII, with 40-45 students per section, and has around 90 well trained teachers in both the shifts.
Facilities
To make the students aware of the latest technology and latest information, the school has a very well equipped computer lab with 55 latest computers, which are interconnected through LAN besides two internet connections of 2 mbps each. The Learning Resource Center of the school is equipped with latest aids and LCD/over head projector & CDs are used for providing Audio-Visual teaching. The school's Physics, Chemistry and Biology labs provide an opportunity to the students of science subjects to learn the intricacies of science through practical. The well equipped library of the school has thousands of books on various topics for reference of students. The school gives ample opportunity to students to develop their sporting skills by providing coaching in various sports. The trained coaches of the school have produced a good number of sportsmen who have brought laurels to school by participating in tournaments at national level. The school has a well ventilated, fully furnished and hygienic Canteen for students. It also provides transport facility for students.
Co-curricular activities
Besides the academics and sports, the school lays an equal emphasis on co-curricular activities, for all round development of students. The school organizes periodic excursions to places of educational interest. It also organizes various competition like English Poem, Group Dance, English Debate, Hindi and English Handwriting, English Biography, Hindi Group Song, Hindi Debate, English Extempore, Sanskrit Shlok Recitation, Rangoli making, Salad decoration, House Meeting, Quiz, Junior Math’s Olympiad, Drawing, Hindi Drama etc. It organizes a Vanmahotsav, where students understand the importance of plants in a human's life, by planting trees.
Fees
The school charges a very nominal tuition fees, as the expenses of the Vidyalaya are borne by the Central Government. The Vidyalaya charges the following charges per month
1. Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi: - Rs. 240 (for Class I - X & Class XI & XII, non-science) & Rs 300 (for Class XI & XII, Science)
2. Computer fee: - Rs 50 till class X & Rs 100 for XI-XII
3. Tuition fee:-Rs 200 (for IX & X), Rs 400 (for XI & XII, science stream).
Admission criteria
The school gives admission to the wards of
1. Transferable and central government employees,
2. Employees of Public Sector Undertaking/ Autonomous Bodies/Institute of Higher Learning of the Government of India.
3. State Government employees,
4. Employees of Public Sector Undertaking/ Autonomous Bodies/Institute of Higher Learning of the State Government.
A child of 5-7 years can be admitted to class 1, of 6-8 years can be admitted to class 2, of 7-9 years can be admitted to class 3 and of 8-10 years can be admitted to class 4 and so on.The school reserves 15% of the seats for SC candidates and 7.5% for ST candidates.
