This is one news that no Madhya Pradesh resident would be proud of. Madhya Pradesh, along with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar report the highest number of dowry deaths in the country. Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath told Lok Sabha today that in Madhya Pradesh, 834 women were killed for dowry in 2009. This is the 3rd highest figure in the country. What is more shameful is the fact that the figure was just 805 in 2008. In contrast its neighbor, Rajasthan, reported just 230 deaths. Definitely the people's mindsets need to be changed and the police needs to enforce the anti-dowry laws more strictly. The inhabitants of the state too should help the authorities in reporting any cases of domestic violence to the police before the situation deteriorates. Prateek Dave Webmaster www.mpspider.com
