Maheshwar Dam's fate under controversy
In New Delhi the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shivraj Chauhan wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh expressing his strong disapproval on the order of halting the Maheshwar Dam project, by the Ministry of Environment. According to him, there may come out some drastic consequences on the implementation of this order. One of them being the loss of about 7.2 lakh units of power per 24 hours.
Further speaking upon his justification of the continuation of the project, Mr. Chauhan said that the order of the Environment ministry is not supported by proper rules and regulations and hence simply an arbitrary action. He said, "After spending Rs. 2500 crores on the project, excluding the sum of Rs. 500 crores spent on Water supply; stopping the project will be foolish and detrimental!"
CM's anger is well reflected in his words when he says, "Environment ministry has continued to threaten the halting of this project despite of repeated assurance of the eco-friendliness and steps to fix the other problems in terms of environment" Of course, this statement of his is bound to create some disturbance in the congress...Let's see what happens next.
