Tourist Attractions nearby Khajuraho Temples Madhya Pradesh

When scheduling a trip to visit the Temples of Love at Khajuraho Madhya Pradesh, it is a good idea to keep aside one or two extra days to enjoy the scenic spots near the town of Khajuraho.

1. Waterfalls near Khajuraho: The Raneh waterfalls are located about 20kms from Khajuraho, while the Pandav waterfalls are locted about 34kms from the town.

2. Picnic Spots near Khajuraho: Benisagar (7 kms) Ranguan (25 kms) are very picturesque spots with lakes, within a short driving distance of Khajuraho.

3. Museums near Khajuraho: You should visit the State Museum of Tribal & Folk Arts at the Chandela Cultural Complex, where you will get to see traditional folk art and tribal artifacts. Masks and jewllery, pottery and metal items are on display in this museum. The Museum is open on all days except Mondays and Government Holidays (Time: 12noon to 8p.m.).

The museum at Dhubela is a good distance away (over 55kms) but the historically inclined would be eager to undertake a journey there to see weapons and garments of a bygone era.

4. Chitrakoot town near Khajuraho: Located in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, Chitrakoot is roughly 200kms from Khajuraho by road. One of the main attractions in this small town is the Bharat Milap temple. As legends go, Bharata met Rama in Chitrakoot to persuade him to return to Ayodhya to rule the kingdom. Apparently the footprints of Bharat and Rama as well as the other brothers are said to be imprinted on the rocks at the Bharat Milap temple.
5. Wildlife Parks near Khajuraho: Those planning to have a long stay in Khajuraho should definitely visit the two famous national parks of Madhya Pradesh – the Bandhavgarh National Park, located 210 kms from Khajuraho and the Panna National Park, located 56 kms from Khajuraho.
