The holy rivers of Madhya- Pradesh


Rivers plays an important role in making of a state.The rivers are not only provides drinking water to all living things but also provide nutrients.Madhya Pradesh have many rivers, the important rivers are Narmada, Chambal, Betwa, Shipra, Sone and Tapti. All rivers have played much important role in making Madhya Pradesh and also having importance in the culture of Madhya-Pradesh.These all rivers have playing a vital role in the lives, history and culture of the Madhya - Pradesh.

All these rivers have played much important role in making Madhya Pradesh and also having importance in the culture of Madhya - Pradesh.This articles tell you the importance of all rivers of Madhya-Pradesh one by one.
1)Narmada
Narmada is not only one of the holy river of Madhya-Pradesh but of India as well.Narmada is known as "Lifeline" of Madhya- Pradesh.It is the longesh river of Madhya-Pradesh and is only river of India which travels from west to east.It originates from Amarkantak in hill of Satpura ranges,there is a small tank which is known as "Narmada Kund" in Amarkantak which is considered as a origin point of Holy river Narmada.Religious importance of Narmada is so much and it is considered one of the most holiest river out of five holy rivers of India.

2)Chambal
Chambal is the second most important river of Madhya-Pradesh.In western side of Madhya-Pradesh , the river Chambal has playing a most important role.Chambal originates from the Janapav Mountain in the Vindhya Range, and flows northeast through Ujjain, Ratlam and Mandsaur, before entering Rajasthan. It reenters Madhya Pradesh after meandering through parts of Rajasthan and touches Moraina and Bhind.

3)Tapti/Tapi
Other than the Narmada, the Tapti is the only river that flows west region and falls into the Arabian Sea, in the Gulf of Khambat.Tapti having much importance agriculture wise ,as it covers a large area and spread over Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. This river originates from Betul which is a district of Madhya Pradesh and situated at the south of the Satpura Range. The Tapti travels almost parallel to the Narmada, but it is much shorter in length than the Narmada.

4)Shipra
The Shipra starts originates in the Vindhya Range from a hill called Kokri Tekdi situated at some distance( about 10-15 Kms)from Ujjain. This river is flowing through the Ujjain. and also touches Ratlam and Mandsaur, before joining the river Chambal.

5)Sone
Sone is also known as Maikalsut because it originates from a mountain called Maikal Ranges at Amarkantak. Previously it was known as Shona.Although Narmada also originates from Amarkantak but main difference is Narmada flows towards west, while Sone journeys towards the east.

6)Betwa River
It Originates from the Kumra village in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh.After meandering through Madhya Pradesh, it enters the neighbouring state, Uttar Pradesh, and joins the river Yamuna in Hamirpur. The Betwa takes along with it the water of the eastern Malwa plateau. The tributaries of Betwa are Bina, Yamini, Dhasan and Ken. It is also known as Vetrawati.
